TRM the national broadcaster of Moldova have held a consultation meeting with notable Moldovan musicians to discuss the possibility of a return to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Moldovan artists invited to Eurovision 2026 discussion meeting

Recently, TRM the national broadcaster of Moldova began a consultation process over the possibility of returning to the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 taking place in Vienna, Austria next May. Together with invited local artists and producers from Moldova, TRM focused on a number of key issues. These included discussions on the format of the selection process, regulatory changes, promotional strategies and support measures for the participants. During the meeting, artists presented their proposals and feedback to the broadcaster on how to improve the selection, as well as concerns regarding creative freedom.

Earlier this year, TRM dramatically withdrew from the contest in Basel in the aftermath of the live auditions round of its national selection. Among the issues cited, were ‘financial difficulties and artistic challenges’.

Moldova in the Eurovision Song Contest

Moldova made their Eurovision debut in 2005 with Zdob și Zdub’s ‘Boonika bate doba‘. With a successful sixth place, this was the start of things to come. Overall Moldova has participated in the contest 18 times and have reached the final on 13 occasions. As well as reaching the top 10 five times. Their best ever result came in 2017 with SunStroke Project’s energetic, ‘Hey Mamma‘ achieving third place. They have also finished second in the televote at the 2022 contest in Turin with Zdob și Zdub and Advahov Brothers’ ‘Trenulețul‘.

In 2024, former Eurovision 2007 representative, Natalie Barbu took to the Eurovision stage once more. During the first Semi-Final, ‘In The Middle’ placed 13th with 20 points. Thus, becoming Moldova’s first non-qualification since 2019.
