A bizarre row erupted at an Iceland supermarket in London’s Chapel Market when a staff member whipped a customer while yelling, “Empty your bag!”
Jaw-Dropping Confrontation Caught on Camera
An onlooker filmed the jaw-dropping scene at the self-checkout tills. The video, later shared with UK News in Pictures shows the furious employee striking the woman with what looks like a whip after demanding she empty her bag.
The employee shouted repeatedly: “Empty your bag!”
Customer Shouts Assault and Calls Police
The visibly enraged customer responded: “Oh my god, that is assault. I am phoning the police. Can you phone the police please?”
As she tried to leave, staff blocked her path and struck her again, shouting the same demand. She yelled back: “Who the f*** do you think you are? My kid’s outside waiting for school. How dare you!”
Shoplifting Accusations and Police Called
The staff member accused the woman of shoplifting, claiming he had caught her before. The shopper denied this, saying: “I don’t really come in here. I go to Waitrose, you mug. You cannot go round assaulting people.”
She continued protesting to other shoppers before calling the police. When she asked for the employee’s name, he told her to “f*** off.” Police arrived at the scene and spoke to the staff member shortly after.
Iceland Responds as Enquiries Continue
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called at 8.07am on October 15 over reports of shoplifting and an assault at the Chapel Market Iceland branch.
“Nothing was reported stolen and no arrests have been made. Enquiries continue. If you have any information please contact 101 quoting CAD 1378/15OCT.”
UKNIP has reached out to Iceland and the Met Police for comment.
Not the First Iceland Incident
This isn’t Iceland’s first brush with bizarre staff-customer trouble. Earlier this year, an Iceland delivery driver was caught on camera driving off with a customer clinging to his bonnet after a row over public urination.
