MALTA, Mont. – The Malta Mustangs have kicked off the season with an impressive seven-game winning streak, maintaining their status as reigning Class B football champions. With each victory, the pressure mounts for the Mustangs.

Senior Trooper Stiles, expressed the challenge of being the team to beat.

“Yeah, I’d say definitely. Everybody wants to beat Malta because we’re the hot team right now, but we just got to push each other and not take anything for granted because it’s I don’t know, it’s my last year, so I know every game could be pretty much my last,” Stiles said.

After a hard-fought win over Fairfield, the Mustangs understand that their success only increases their target. Landon Retan shared how the team uses this pressure to fuel their efforts.

“I’d say this boosts our confidence up to work a lot harder. And especially tonight, like we have a bunch of stuff to fix,” said Retan.

Head Coach Nick Oxarart emphasized the importance of focusing on the details rather than the record or playoffs.

“We tell them that, you know, you can never look past the next game that you have ahead of you. And really, you can never look past the next play or the next practice and you just take advantage of getting better at practice. And we’ll watch a lot of film this week of realizing, you know, the mistakes we still make. We’re we’re far from perfect and we got to get better in practice and then hopefully they’ll show up in games. But we’re still making too many mistakes to get to the point where we want to be out,” said Oxarart.

Despite their winning habit, the Mustangs remain hungry for more victories. Retan noted the growing challenge they face.

“I definitely do think the target on their back has gotten a lot bigger with us being seven or now and other teams, one where we have, but we can’t let them take it from us,” Retan said.

As the regular season winds down, the Mustangs continue their pursuit of perfection while focusing on improvement each week.
