WANA (Oct 16) – The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations has rejected recent claims by Microsoft regarding Iran’s alleged involvement in cyber operations, stressing that Tehran has never initiated — and will not initiate — any offensive action in cyberspace against other countries.

In a statement released Thursday evening local time, the Mission said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is not the initiator of any offensive cyber action against any country. However, as a victim of cyber operations itself, Iran will respond to any threat in this domain in a manner proportionate to its nature and scope.”

The statement came in response to a Microsoft report alleging that Iran has been using artificial intelligence to carry out cyberattacks against Western countries. Iran’s UN Mission dismissed the claims as “baseless and politically motivated,” reaffirming that the Islamic Republic has consistently advocated for the peaceful use of information technology and for the establishment of international frameworks to prevent states from abusing cyberspace.
