Canada’s Leylah Fernandez secured her spot in the semifinals of the Japan Open after defeating Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova 7-6 (2), 6-3 in Thursday’s quarterfinal match.
The Laval, Quebec native fired one ace but committed three double faults during the contest, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Despite that, she capitalized on four of her nine break-point opportunities to clinch the straight-sets victory.
Sramkova also had one ace, but committed seven double faults.
The Slovakian converted two of her three break-point chances.
Fernandez will next face the winner between Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic and Romania’s Sorana Cirstea.
