Sheridan and Campbell County will renew their rivalry on Friday (October 17th) in a matchup of undefeated vs. undefeated.

There’s been some question as to whether it’s still called the Energy Bowl or not.

In 2017, Thunder Basin, which is in the Gillette city limits, opened up and split the Gillette student population between the Camels and the Bolts.

Since the split, Sheridan is 8-0 against Campbell County, while TB has managed to beat the Broncs twice since opening up, but there’s no trophy on the line between those 2 schools.

The Energy Bowl trophy resides in Sheridan HS, and has not been updated since the Gillette school split up.

Sheridan Head Jeff Mowry says his players know about it, and will try to continue the tradition, but wonders if the Energy Bowl has lost some of its luster, and if many in both Gillette schools remember.

“I think it would be bad luck if we never took it with us and so every time we play in Gillette, or we play Campbell County, the trophy always goes with us and so whether they know about it or not, they’re going to get it if they beat us, and so I think it would just be bad luck if we were arrogant enough to say, ‘we’ll just leave the trophy at home,’ because if they get us, it’s rightfully theirs. I don’t know if they know anything about it, but we’ll take it and if they win the game, we’ll present it to them and hopefully we can get this thing going again.”

Kickoff from Campbell County on Friday, October 17th is scheduled for 6pm.

If Sheridan wins, the team would secure the #1 seed for the playoffs, with 1 more game remaining in the regular season.
