BISMARCK, N.D. (KUMV) – North Dakota’s task force on government efficiency is meeting later this week to discuss reviewing state budgets. The Department of Commerce will be the primary focus of this meeting.
The task force will hear from commerce staff about the returns from various programs.
During the last legislative session, some lawmakers say they felt tourism funding and support for bringing in immigrants to work were not providing enough benefits.
Katie Ralston Howe, the director of workforce development, says she believes the department is working towards the state’s workforce strategies.
“It takes time for workforce initiatives to come to fruition and demonstrate return on investment. The other piece we need to understand is the difference and belief about what the state’s role should be in addressing workforce needs throughout North Dakota,” said Howe.
Howe said earlier this year that the department’s Global Talent Office has brought in at least 15 employees since its creation in 2023.
