Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan lauded the success of Egyptian and Turkish mediation efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip, lauding the peace summit which took place in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

He said that Turkey looks forward to participating in an international conference on Gaza’s early recovery and reconstruction, which is slated to be held in Cairo in the second half of November.

“Erdogan’s remarks came during his meeting with newly-appointed Egyptian Ambassador to Turkey Wael Badawi, who presented his credentials to the Turkish president,” according to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Friday 17/10/2025.

Badawi conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Erdogan, on the occasion of Turkey’s Republic Day.

The Turkish leader asked that his best regards and greetings be conveyed to Sisi, stressing his country’s keenness to foster cooperation with Egypt in various areas and increase trade exchange, especially as the two countries mark the 100th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties.

For his part, the ambassador emphasized Egypt’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Turkey across different fields, noting that preparations are underway to hold a meeting of the Joint Planning Group soon, to be co-chaired by the Egyptian and Turkish foreign ministers, as part of arrangements for Erdogan’s planned visit to Egypt to take part in the High-Level Strategic Council meeting next year.

Badawi said Egypt hopes that Erdogan will attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on November 1.
