  1. The support for Ukrainians has been really beautiful

  2. *Also for Ukrainians.
The entire point of “Nation of Sanctuary” is to help refugees integrate into Wales better.

  3. Thinking for themselves isn’t their strong point

  4. Reform voters seldom realise anything. They voted for Brexit and still haven’t realised it was Farage’s gift to the Nation.

Welsh Reform voters haven’t realised that Reform will end the bit of independence from Whitehall Wales has.

  5. I think there is a lot of confusion. I googled the figures and the amount of asylum seekers is insanely low in wales approx 2,800 but someone feel free to correct me,, I’m ill as hell atm and can’t remember the specifics . Caerphilly helped 75 Ukrainians. We aren’t England…

  6. If you ask any ‘Nation of Sanctuary’ devotee whether the concept was about asylum seekers, they would tell you it is. People don’t like being gaslit like this and residents of Caerphilly aren’t idiots.

  7. Reform wants to support the Russian war effort by stopping funding for Ukraine refugees?!

  8. Reform voters don’t care about anything except themselves

  9. How is the initiative for Ukrainians when it predates the invasion of Ukraine by a decade? I don’t doubt Ukrainians have made use of it, but it was hardly started with them in mind as the title suggests.

  10. Wales’ Nation of Sanctuary policy long pre-dates the Ukranian War. It started with Cardiff and Swansea becoming Cities of Sanctuary by 2014, which informed the progress of Welsh Government policy (the WG committed to becoming a Nation of Sanctuary in 2012). Wales became a Nation of Sanctuary in 2019.

For reference, the Ukranian invasion by Russia was in 2022. None of the old articles talking about the kinds of refugees they were expecing in Wales mentioned about Ukraine.

It was not “for” Ukranians. They just so happened to make up the majority of refugees since the policy started due to world events. Obviously the benefactors of this policy will change over time.

In any case – why should it make a difference which refugees have received the majority of the funding so far? If you don’t agree with the policy, it shouldn’t make a difference! If anything, it would be worse if Reform voters said it’s ok so far because it’s mostly been spent on white people.

What a sh*t-stirring headline from Nation.Cymru, that will only serve to inflame tensions more.

  11. I guarantee you that some Reform UK supporters *do* know that Ukrainians are the main beneficiaries of this programme, and oppose it for that reason.
