Holland America Line is set to meet this demand with its newly unveiled 2027-2028 Asia cruise itineraries.

As travelers shift their focus towards lesser-explored destinations in 2026 and beyond, Holland America Line is set to meet this demand with its newly unveiled 2027-2028 Asia cruise itineraries. With an emphasis on cultural immersion and visiting off-the-beaten-path locations, the cruise line is giving passengers the opportunity to explore not only popular hotspots like Japan and Thailand but also less-visited destinations that offer authentic experiences and breathtaking landscapes.

In response to a growing trend identified by Expedia’s Unpack ’26 report, which highlights the increasing appeal of under-the-radar locations such as Okinawa, Japan, and Phu Quoc, Vietnam, Holland America is positioning its cruises as the perfect gateway for travelers seeking intimate and enriching travel experiences. By offering journeys to destinations that are not easily accessible to larger ships, the cruise line promises a journey into the heart of Asia’s diverse cultures, histories, and untouched natural beauty.

Holland America’s Fresh Approach to Japan’s Ports

A key highlight of Holland America’s new Asia season is the inclusion of new, lesser-known Japanese ports, giving travelers a chance to experience Japan from a unique perspective. Onboard the 2,000-passenger Noordam, guests will have access to hidden gems and scenic cruising experiences, made possible by the ship’s midsize design that allows it to dock at smaller, more exclusive ports.

Hitachinaka: Known as the “Flower & Seaside town,” this Japanese destination welcomes visitors with the vibrant colors of Hitachi Seaside Park, home to seasonal floral displays that transform the landscape throughout the year.

Nagoya: A city rich in history and culture, Nagoya is famed for its impressive Nagoya Castle, adorned with golden shachi-hoko (mythical fish statues) that sit atop its rooftops. The city offers a perfect balance of ancient tradition and modern charm.

Maizuru Bay: Located in a region steeped in naval history, Maizuru Bay promises a tranquil cruising experience, where passengers can admire the lush, green islands surrounded by deep blue waters. This new scenic route will allow guests to witness this stunning port city in a way previously unavailable.

Extended Stays for a Deeper Cultural Experience

To enhance the traveler’s immersion, Holland America is offering overnight stays in six prominent destinations across Asia. These extended port calls will allow passengers more time to explore the local culture, indulge in the flavors of the region, and experience vibrant city life after dark. Notable cities for overnight stays include:

Halong Bay, Vietnam: Famous for its towering limestone cliffs and emerald waters, this UNESCO World Heritage site provides a peaceful backdrop for evening exploration.

Seoul, South Korea: An exciting city that blends modern energy with centuries-old traditions, offering everything from K-pop culture to ancient palaces.

Bangkok, Thailand: Known for its dazzling temples, bustling markets, and unforgettable street food, Bangkok comes alive in the evenings with vibrant street life and local entertainment.

Manila, Philippines: A city with a lively mix of Spanish colonial architecture and modern developments, offering a wide range of cultural experiences and bustling nightlife.

Osaka, Japan: A city famed for its culinary delights, Osaka provides ample opportunity to explore vibrant markets and savour its world-renowned street food.

Shanghai, China: A city that never sleeps, Shanghai is a dazzling mix of modern skyscrapers and old-world charm, perfect for evening strolls along the Bund.

These overnight stops are designed to provide a deeper connection with each destination, allowing travelers to witness the essence of each city after hours.

Cruise from Tokyo: A Perfect Combination of Urban and Cultural Exploration

Many of Holland America’s 2027-2028 itineraries will depart from Tokyo, making it easy for travelers to combine their Asia cruise with a stay in this dynamic city. From September 2027 through April 2028, Tokyo’s unique blend of futuristic innovation and rich history offers travelers the perfect pre-cruise adventure. Whether it’s visiting iconic sites like the Meiji Shrine, indulging in sushi at Tsukiji Fish Market, or exploring the vibrant neighborhoods of Shibuya and Shinjuku, Tokyo sets the stage for an unforgettable cruise experience.
