These are powdered milk drinks for kids, not £40 HP printer ink.

  1. It’s obviously a hot item for theft in that particular store if they need to put them in secure containers.

  2. Generally most items now above £5 has some form of security, be it tagging or boxes.

It’s not that they are sort after it’s just something they can sell for a quick couple of quid.

  3. kid/baby stuff seems to get nicked and resold more often (and with higher demand?) than HP printer ink

  4. Milo Singapore and Ghana used to cost 3-5.50, that’s an eye watering cost. Anyway, some shop manager has decided they’re getting stolen so is locking them up. Just bleak times. Milo being for kids though… debateable.

  5. Just got back from NYC, absolutely everything is in security boxes in certain pharmacies. Way it should be since this city can’t even look at shoplifters the wrong way without getting criminal charges

  6. Because people who steal like those items… obviously

  7. Because the shoplifters nick it and sell it to mothers at cheaper prices to fund their smack addictions. Similar story with baby formula.

Best part is that many work together and have their own devices to remove the security tags/boxes.

  8. It’s not to protect them from the public. It’s to protect the public from them

  9. Dunno why you’d choose printer ink as your comparison point. Plenty local shops and supermarkets will have cheese, meats, red bull, etc., locked up.

Quick Sales for those on the rob, leads to an uptick in those things being robbed, leads to those things being secured more.

  10. I bought a piece of gammon (£7) today at Sainsburys and it was padlocked. First time I’ve seen it locked.

  11. Because people nick them? Hardly rocket science fella why else would a shop put in security measures

  12. I bought a box of Milk Tray last night and had to get the security tag removed!

  13. Can’t exactly pop into my local pub and sell printer ink

  14. High value items.

Similarly I wandered into Dunelm today and discovered all of their high end Dorma bedding is now in glass fronted cabinets with keypads on them. Admittedly some of their duvet sets are three figures.

B&M also had fabric softener behind slider things – presumably to stop people sweeping the whole shelf into a bag.

  15. I bought a bar of Tony’s chocolate from Sainsburys in Holborn earlier today that had a security tag on it…

  16. My guess is that people steal milk powder for cutting coke, or trying to sell it as coke, or to just have a glass of milk after a long day of doing coke.

  17. Once walked past a babyfood/formula aisle and the whole thing was locked up.

  18. It’s not some huge mystery, they lock up the items that are being stolen

  19. Because they’re expensive and branded, so they can be sold on anywhere. This discourages theft.

  20. For £6.50 its best he keep that locked up. Thats extortionate.

  21. Actual question: What’s it like? Never tried it. Is it like chocolate Nesquik?
