Passengers screamed in horror as a fire broke out inside the plane’s cabin, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing.

Panic spread aboard an Air China flight after orange flames and smoke erupted from an overhead locker, the Telegraph reports.

Videos online showed passengers and staff rushing to the burning overhead locker to put out the flames.

Screams and screams from other passengers can be heard in the footage, with some calling for the crew to “hurry up” in Korean.

The fully-loaded Airbus A321 plane, travelling from Hangzhou, eastern China, to Incheon in South Korea, was already 10,000 metres in the air when the fire broke out.

Cabin crew managed to put out the fire, passengers said. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Air China confirmed that the fire started after a power bank inside the hand luggage caught fire. /Telegraph/
