A yellow weather warning for rain in Northern Ireland has been extended to more parts of the North.

Parts of the country have been enduring heavy rain today, as a the warning remains in place.

The warning issued by the Met Office previously included counties Antrim, Armagh and Down. It now includes Derry and Co Tyrone, and has been extended to last until 3pm.

The Met Office states the rain will be heaviest in the southeast, where 20-30 mm is expected to fall. Over the Mournes 60-100 mm could build up, much of this falling in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Due to the heavy rainfall, the Met Office has warned there is a chance bus and train services could be impacted.

Flooding on roads might also increase journey times. The Met Office warns some flooding in businesses and homes can be expected, as well as interruption to power supplies.

NI Road Policing and Safety have issued a warning to road users to take extra caution: “Road users are advised to reduce speed and drive with extra caution given today’s wet conditions. Heavy rain has resulted in excess surface water in many areas across Northern Ireland. Your journey may take longer than normal – please also avoid driving through flood water.”
