Donald Trump issued a threat to Colombia’s president, Gustavo Petro, on Sunday morning after the South American leader spoke out against the deadly U.S. attacks against vessels in the Caribbean the Trump administration has accused of ferrying drugs.
In a Truth Social posting the U.S. president seemed to suggest that Petro’s country could play host to a U.S. invasion or military campaign of some kind as he vowed that his administration would use force to “close” the so-called “killing fields” in Colombia if the Petro government did not take action first.
Anyone remember Trump campaigning on no war?
And now he cant wait to start international conflict at every damn corner, and threatens with war everyone that isn’t doing what he wants, and if not that, he threatens to invade and take them over.
No war president my ass.
Someone deal with this maniac and his protege and save the world from their utter stupidity.
After burning all the bridges in Europe and Asia, Trump is now marching towards South America.
Colombian drugs kill thousands of Americans per year.
I’ll provide some context as a politically engaged Colombian.
Petro is a gigantic, often bizarre, populist that has done a lot of harm to the country but still maintains around 35-40% support due to an increasing taste for populism in Colombia (and everywhere else it seems).
He often uses nationalism as a rallying cry to try and boost his popularity, he did this relatively effectively during his first crisis with Trump regarding the flight with the returning, mistreated migrants, earlier this year he tried to drum up nationalism regarding a tiny territorial conflict with Peru in the Amazon region with no real success, tried again a month back by shouting in a New York street for the US military to disobey orders from Trump but the response from the US was pretty mild so it didn’t work so well.
This is because a few months back an unofficial delegation of some opposition political figures/mayors travelled to the US to more or less tell Washington that Petro is doing this on purpose, he wants to provoke Trump because nationalism produces support amongst the dumb dumbs, so they would simply be helping him in regard to the coming 2026 elections when so far the chances for his chosen successor don’t look great.
It seems the message had been understood, at least by Rubio or whoever, but it seems now Trump saw some of the many, endless Petro attempts at provoking him and as it was expected, he’s biting.
Defense and oil/gas lobbying right at work.
I hate to agree with Trump but I believe in being forthright when even someone I disagree with about a lot of things is right about something. Colombia’s president is a well known former NARCO leader. It’s not a secret at all. He’s supposedly reformed but very little has changed in Colombia since he was elected. So take that how you want.
