  1. Imagine crowing about that when in the past week thousands have come across on boats, and it’s not like we’ve even got rid of 16 because we get some different ones back and all rubber stamped

  3. This is so dumb and performative. Stop the boats and deport the criminals. That will be worthwhile.

  4. One in one out isn’t great but its even worse when you think they won’t take murders and rapist in case they get mistreated by the country they left, so potentially you keep the worst and get rid of the best

  11. A bit like picking up a single snickers bar wrapper off of your apartment floor and putting it in the bin while you’re standing in a hoarders mess and saying “yep that’s all cleaned”.

  13. I imagine riots will begin over this, you can’t expect a small English village that’s only ever had a noise complaint regarding a particularly noisy sheep in a field to tolerate violent criminals from another country. Just have to wonder when they move into a slum.

  27. I think the idea is that people who are chancing it are swapped with people that genuinely need it (women and children right?), this should provide a deterrence to all the men that are chancing it I assume.

  29. I’m convinced at this point that France and the UK are operating a human trafficking scheme and not actually trying to stop illegal migration. There is just no way that a country like the UK could be this bad at stopping rubber boats without it being on purpose.

  36. with the number of brits emigrating elsewhere in the world, I am sure a one-in one-out deal is already in effect.

  37. An absolute drop in the ocean, and 10% of the daily boat arrivals of that day.

    Until we make the UK less attractive for migrants, the boats will keep coming. The minuscule chance of being returned to France simply won’t be any deterrent.

  38. 500 a day in and generally 0 out. Taking 1 in for 1 out is a net of 0 out, so we are waving flags to stand still, yet a new boat comes every day. Clueless politicians out of their depth.
