Police are investigating after an ‘incident’ outside a hotel housing asylum seekers, following a protest last night.

More than a hundred anti-immigration protestors marched to the Highfield House Hotel in Portswood, Southampton, yesterday afternoon, where they were met by counter-protestors headed by Stand Up To Racism, who left at around 5.30pm.

It is understood that this incident occurred at around 6.15pm, and incurred a strong police response.

More than a dozen officers were seen pushing back against people near the hotel.

A police spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident outside Highfield House Hotel last night and enquiries are ongoing to establish if any crimes have occurred.”
