US President Donald Trump sees that the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine could increase pressure on Moscow. However, he noted that he doesn’t know if this threat influenced Putin to reengage with the US in peace talks. Trump believes that the dictator “wants to make a deal” and thinks the war could end before any of these missiles are transferred because the US needs these weapons for its own use. Additionally, Trump said Putin didn’t like the idea of transferring Tomahawks to Ukraine, stating that such supplies wouldn’t change the battlefield but would harm US-Russian relations.

President Zelenskyy, after his visit to the US, said a final decision on sending Tomahawks to Ukraine hasn’t been made yet, but he hopes it will be positive. “It’s good that President Trump didn’t say no, but he didn’t say yes today either”, Zelenskyy said. He added that they agreed not to discuss the missiles publicly for now since the US wants to avoid escalation, but the issue is still on the table.

During his meeting with Zelenskyy, Trump told him about his conversation with Putin and emphasized that the US’ proposal is to end the war by freezing the current front line.
