WANA (Oct 20) – The Iranian national karate team has earned a total of 10 qualification spots for the upcoming World Karate Championships in Cairo, Egypt, following a strong performance at the final qualification event held in Paris.

 

Prior to the Paris qualifiers, Iran had already secured seven spots—in both men’s and women’s divisions—for the world championships. With three additional qualifications achieved in Paris, the team’s total now stands at ten.

In the men’s kumite division, Iran managed to secure qualification in all weight categories, while in the women’s section, Iranian athletes earned four spots in individual kumite and one in individual kata. As a result, both the men’s and women’s teams will each send five representatives to Cairo.

 

The newly earned qualifications came from Fatemeh Sadeghi in individual kata, Mobina Heidari in the –68 kg category, and Amirreza Borzoui in the –67 kg category.

Previously, the following athletes had already claimed their spots:

Women: Sara Bahmanyar (–50 kg), Fatemeh Sa’adati (–55 kg), and Atoosa Golshadnezhad (–61 kg)
Men: Ali Maskini (–60 kg), Morteza Ne’mati (–75 kg), Mehdi Khodabakhshi (–84 kg), and Saleh Abazari (+84 kg)

 

The World Karate Championships will be held from November 27 to 30 (Azar 6–9) in Cairo, Egypt.
