    The New York Times reported that a 155-millimeter shell fired during a live demo at Camp Pendleton on Saturday for the Marine Corps’ 250th anniversary prematurely detonated, dropping fragments on a motorcycle part of Vance’s motorcade and a California Highway Patrol vehicle.”

  11. Amazing that JD Vance argued for this, and Newsom argued against it for safety reasons. Like duh… at least they were able to shut down the highway for regular traffic.

As a former marine, I promise you there is a Gunnery Sergeant buffing a floor as punishment right now in some half-ass lit office cause he told an officer this was a dumbfuck idea and they were a dumbfuck if they went through with it…and he’s smiling, because he knows that officer is currently getting his ass chewed out for doing said dumbfuck thing.

    Marine Colonel Doug Krugman resigned due to policy disagreements, moral hesitations, and legal concerns about President Trump. 

    Not saying anything was done on purpose, sometimes things just happen.

  35. The whole celebration is stupid on its face, and any soldier worth their salt would have known it.

    Back when I lived in New Orleans, got woken up in the middle of the night from a picture falling off a high shelf at 2am. Closer examination, there was a bullet in it. Had someone shot at the house?
    No. There had been a crime over half a mile away, where a mentally unwell sort fired in the air to intimidate police. The bullet flew half a mile, over many buildings, slamming into the wall of our house and ricocheting into a picture frame. Thankfully missing anyone in the house.

    Bullets do not simply disappear when you fire them. What goes up, comes down. Shooting live rounds over a freeway in a major city is madness.
