Iran continues to maintain communication with the United States through intermediaries, but officials stressed that these contacts should not be interpreted as formal negotiations.

At a weekly press briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei underlined that while channels of dialogue are open, Tehran has not yet entered a stage of negotiations with Washington, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

“Contacts between us and the opposing side continue in some form through intermediaries, but this does not signify the start of negotiations. Talks begin only when both sides respect each other’s positions and are prepared to consider each other’s interests on an equal basis. We have not reached that stage,” Baghaei said.

Regarding the Resolution 2231 (2015) on the Iran nuclear issue, he emphasised: “What we have said is the termination of Resolution 2231. According to the text of the resolution, it ended on 18 October. Iran’s acquired rights remain unchanged, including the right to enrichment.”

Commenting further, Baghaei added that the JCPOA was a temporary understanding: other parties were to lift sanctions in exchange for Iran’s transparent nuclear measures.

“Fifteen official IAEA reports confirmed Iran’s compliance, while the other parties cannot make such a claim. Since 2018, both the U.S. and the three European countries have been considered violators of the JCPOA. Resolution 2231 ends without affecting Iran’s essential commitments.”
