A Ukrainian drone attack on the Orenburg gas plant in Russia has led Kazakhstan to cut production at its Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field by 25% to 30%.

This plant, one of the largest gas processing facilities, had to stop taking gas from Kazakhstan after the attack. Ukraine confirmed targeting both the gas plant in Orenburg and an oil refinery in Samara as part of intensified efforts since August to disrupt Russian fuel supplies.

Karachaganak’s output dropped to between 25,000 and 28,000 metric tons, down from the usual 35,000-35,500. The field, which produced around 263,000 barrels of oil daily in 2024, is operated by a consortium that includes Chevron, Shell, and Eni, among others.

There was no immediate response from involved parties regarding the situation.
