Republicans posture and have no intention of acting in good faith, Johnson continues to be mendacious and condescending, just another shutdown day of the week ending in ‘Y’.
Day 5 of saying “sequester congress” until it happens
We are now tied for the third longest shutdown in our history, the top four all having taken place under a trump presidency. That, in and of itself, should tell you this is entirely self-serving and the Republicans have no interest or intention in budging or serving the public good.
This will end as the price increases to ACA users roll out later this month and into next month. That’s when this shit is going to get real for millions of Americans, mostly in red states.
Republi” CANT’S” want to CANCEL CHRISTMAS!!!
Gonna post this everyday until ATC wises up.
Take a sick day, ATC. And once you do, the govt will be back open by midnight and you won’t have to worry about this upcoming missed paycheck
This shutdown may not be their fault, but they damn sure have the power to end it. That’s what they did last time and republicans caved so quickly
Republican legislators showing the world that a GOP led Congress is about the same as no Congress.
So I’ve seen some people suggest that once health insurers put out their new rates to customers on the 1st, they can’t undo them in the system. Anyone know how true that is? Aside from the fact that “why would they” is it physically possible or is it really too late if this all goes past the 1st?
I wish I could avoid doing my job and take a 3 day vacation during crunch time. And take a 4 day vacation the week before and take a 2 day vacation right before the shutdown started.
Democrats need one simple message: “In 10 days, 30 millions Americans will receive notices that their health care costs are going to explode because of cuts to Medicaid and ACA. Millions of people could lose coverage altogether. Rural hospitals are going to shut down. This is because Republicans refuse to work with us to make sure that every American has access to quality healthcare.”
That’s it. That is the answer to every single question about the shutdown.
Trump and Johnson have said there is nothing to negotiate and they dont want anything. They just want to extend the shutdown. These republicans cant govern and are just pure evil
Keep it shut! Can we shut it down more? No more government!!!
Not sure why, but I have a sinking feeling the Dems will cave later this week with nothing other than the promise of doing something. They lost a 4th senator last week. I’m pretty moderate, but I’m even tired of the moderates now.
Ghislane Maxwell and a list full of Epstein’s sick pals, George Santos, and Argentina have been better looked after by this administration than the American citizens who voted for it.
They’ll sell anyone and everyone out before inconveniencing one of their own.
Day 3548348 of reminding people *if you can* to be prepared to help your community if SNAP benefits do end up stopping. Be very familiar with your local food pantries, see how/when they take donations, see if you can get them to create an Amazon wishlist so that people don’t feel like they have to physically go in to donate. My township in IL did this and it’s been very helpful in getting more donations. Canned goods tend to go low at ours first, if you’ve got stragglers in your garden for the end of the season a lot of pantries would be thrilled to receive fresh produce. If you’re a couponer, now is a great time to see what deals you can get on essential products that some pantries give out alongside food, such as hygiene products. Aldi is doing a $40 Thanksgiving meal where if you shop their list of products, the total should come out around $40 and is meant to serve 10 people. If you know people who could use this, make sure they know about it, or use it as a tool to get these items to bring to the local pantries. Donate some holiday staples like instant mashed potatoes/bags of potatoes, gravy packets, canned green beans, etc. And of course, encourage the people around you to utilize these resources if they exist. They want to help, they want to get the food out there that would otherwise go to waste.
Can someone confirm a rough timeline for when workers will stop being paid?
And a similar timeline in terms of agency shutdowns/furloughs/reduced or stopped services?
From articles I am seeing it seems like October 24 through the 31 will be when it starts to really impact individual employees? And it’ll cascade / spiral from there?
It’s really sad how proven it is that people simply will not care about an issue until the consequences of that issue are directly affecting them.
We’re walking into a recession because people aren’t losing money on a wide scale *right now*. Warnings abounded for Trump’s policies before the election, and some people only noticed after he won and implemented them. The Democrat messaging during the shutdown has been “you are going to lose your benefits and healthcare”, and people across the country won’t pay attention until it’s already gone.
So much of this country receives federal benefits while consistently voting for the party trying to take them away, because either they don’t know what gets federally funded, or they don’t think the benefits *they* get will go away. People need to feel what it’s like for the government to be shut down for a month to understand what it means when it’s not there.
