1. I don’t think he is particularly fixated on anything. But expecting Russians to “just leave” and sign a peace deal because Trump woke up on the wrong side of the bed is fanciful at best.

   Wars have always resulted in losses for the losing party. Ukraine is not going to be an exception.

2. *Submission Statement:* President Trump suggested that Ukraine will have to cede some of it’s territory, specifically in the Donbas, in order to end the war with Russia. While Ukrainian President Zelenskyy previously supported a temporary cease-fire, he has emphasized that giving up the Donbas is unacceptable, a position backed by the Ukrainian population. Russia has long sought control of the Donbas, which is rich in coal and heavy industry and holds economic and strategic significance for both Ukraine and Russia. Russian nationalists have claimed that the Donbas’s ethnic Russians want to secede and unify with Russia itself, which is contradicted by several elections and referendums held over the years.
