HMV is planning to open its first store in The Netherlands with a new site in The Hague in the latter stages of development.

The new store will open its doors before the end of the year.

The expansion to the Netherlands will mean that HMV has a High Street presence in a third EU market following successful launches across Ireland (in Dublin and Limerick) and Belgium (with two stores in Antwerp & Brussels).

The retailer has over 100 sites across the UK with numerous planned openings in the coming six months. HMV said it now accounts for 50% of all sales of the vinyl format.

The new HMV store will offer a range of music on vinyl alongside an extensive range of films and box-sets across Blu-Ray formats, as well as entertainment merchandise.

Phil Halliday, managing director at HMV and Fopp, said: “We’re planning to create a home for communities of fans to come together and share their love of music and popular culture – from K-pop to classical, heavy metal to EDM, films, anime and books. When we open we’ll aim to bring ranges that can’t be found anywhere else under one roof. We’re confident that we can bring something new to shoppers and hope that fans will share our excitement when we open our doors.”

It will also stage performances from up-and-coming acts through the HMV Live&Local programme, which has been established to showcase local acts and give a platform to emerging talent.
