Context of the visit and expected topics
Officials also confirmed that press briefings during the visit are not planned.
As a reminder, on July 14, the United States and NATO approved an agreement titled the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which envisages purchasing American weapons for Ukraine at the expense of European alliance member countries.
Seventeen NATO member countries have already joined this initiative.
On October 16, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They discussed the possibility of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, and Trump noted that Putin did not like such an idea. They also discussed the possibility of a Putin–Trump meeting in Hungary, but the date of the meeting is not yet known.
All of this underscores the close cooperation between the United States and NATO in supporting Ukraine and in seeking paths to a peaceful resolution.
