Ten years after Paris, the world is still failing to meet its own climate promises. None of the 45 key indicators for limiting global warming to 1.5°C, in line with 2015’s Paris Agreement, are on track for 2030.

  1. Btw, some researchers say we need to double to pace to stay on course….

  2. None of the 45 global climate indicators analysed in the report are on track for 2030…..

    Not any, not one, NONE.

  3. These conferences should include detailed action plans specified for countries. And strict penalties for failing to comply.

Penalties should be targeted at economy, as that is the main driver of not doing anything in the first place. Something in the form of “if country x does not perform steps 1, 2 and 3 by year xxxx, your main export y will not be importedbby any country here until steps happen”.

Just a politician saying “yes, we will reduce emissions” is an absolute nothingburger.

  4. Paris was lip service. None of the petrostates had any intention of reducing fossil fuel usage.

  5. Durrrr, this was clear right after that meeting already.
We need to severely limit our societies but voters don’t want.
So far the action against climate change, it will never happen it seems.

Oh and in the meantime me and my family have indeed been sobering down for over 14 years, we stopped dodging all our responsibilities.

  6. We already blew past 1.5C.

Last year we were at 1.55C

  7. I cannot control politicians, industry or billionaires. But I have chipped away at my own 30 tons of CO2. Gardening, planting trees, dramatically reducing the energy I use, and heating with a rocket mass heater. No sacrifice – everything is about making a better life AND it happens to chip away at my CO2. I think I am now in the space of chipping away CO2 for others.

  8. And it’s not going to change until we unite politically, learn to not fall for infighting, pick common fights and “sell well” to the public the actions needed to stop climate change without falling in the traps the system has often lured us into ( looking at you, overrated individual responsibility).

We need to be technical, col, calculating, scientific. We need to learn to pick our fights. Most importantly we need to make these measures palatable to the public and they are, they can be.

The greatest result against us is painting environmentalists as naive, vegan hippies who want to push everyone into a radical worsening of their conditions. This is what we appear like to the public.

But the truth is that most needed measures won’t worsen the daily life of a generic person

How to really really sell environentalism well? Personally i think we should focus on anticapitalism and environmental measures being a “byproduct” of it. The false dicothomies can be addressed and the “sacrifices” won’t be sacrifices if we push a “guilty ones must pay” “hate canpaign” towards multinationals, oil companies, banks etc..

If we can manage to make the average public understand that at worst their situation under anticaplist, environmental friendly governments will remain the same and at best it will improve while the people responsible for the condition of our world and the people’s daily shitty life will be forced to pay for such changes we will manage to change the course of the future.. that’s the victory waiting for us.

At least, in my opinion. For this reason and with this purpose, this goal in mind, i try to make little political steps everyday, trying to build a political movement, a local AND international one. I invite you to do similarly .. or perhaps join? Both are good. But political action is key, even practical one. (Literally gather many many locals and plant local trees in the right places it has both an immediate effect and helps join people socially and politically)

    This and many other actions

  9. Let’s stop this holding to 1.5 nonsense and target a more realistic 2.5-3 degrees.
