  1. Nils Schmid, a spokesman for the German Bundestag and a spokesman for the Foreign Policy Party of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), is proposing to involve Ukraine in solving the refugee problem on the Polish-Belarusian border. According to the politician in an interview with the German media company Deutschlandfunk on Wednesday, November 10, it would be possible to agree with Ukraine on the reception of refugees while their application for asylum in the EU is being considered. “This way we can make it clear that not every refugee will automatically get into the European Union,” Schmid said.

At the same time, the politician, whose faction is the largest in the Bundestag, criticized Poland’s treatment of migrants trying to enter the country illegally from Belarus. Schmid drew attention to reports of illegal “pushbacks” – the expulsion of refugees from the country back to Belarus without the possibility of applying for asylum in the EU. According to the German politician, Poland must adhere to international norms, in particular, provide the needy with basic humanitarian protection and the right to consider an asylum application.
