  1. Can someone explain to me what good fighter jets are to Ukraine? I mean obviously if they have more jets they can deploy more jets. However, can they be used offensively? Neither side seems to be using jets offensively.

  2. Since this LOI concerns the newest version of the Gripen that is currently being produced at only 12-15 airframes per year(for customers Brazil and Sweden) these planes will take a while to be delivered even if they ramp up production.

Also it’s a letter of intent / MoU so it is not a binding agreement yet.

  3. I think Ukraine should think about building their own fighter jets, it will be an expensive endeavour but it will be awesome 🙂 and maybe it will open doors to new defence deals

  4. Proud of our neighbors. When we had our existential war, Sweden essentially gave us our air force. Hard not to feel a little sentimental.

  5. Now we are finally getting the fuck started i just cant believe they could not see reason

  6. A letter of intent, this is more politics than reality to put pressure on Putin. It’s clear Europe has no taste for war, and Nato is still using the U.S. as it’s lead on the matter. If Ukraine brings the war to Moscow, the tables will turn, but without long range weapons, the outcome appears sad.

  7. This is a strong move for both countries (and for democracy as a whole). For Sweden, it strengthens its defense industry, expands its geopolitical influence, and reinforces its role as a reliable NATO partner. For Ukraine, it provides access to proven, modern aircraft that can defend its sovereignty and protect civilians against ongoing aggression.

Plus, if these aircraft prove their metal against Russian defences – every country in the world will be lining up to buy them.

  8. How long before these planes are actually delivered? It seems like nearly a decade long affair. So it may not help Ukraine any time soon unfortunately.

  9. Planes are expected to be delivered within 3 years. A lot can happen between now and then

  10. Hurra to Sweden , hope other countrey do the same . To give what Ukraina needs

  11. Is there any idea as to where the required money will come from?

  12. This a 10+ years from now best case scenario

Saab is already struggling to deliver all the Brazilian Gripen on time despite the contract being signed a decade ago, it recently signed a deal with Peru for 24 and may soon sign one with Colombia for 16.

  13. Good on you Sweden! The world has to come to terms with the fact that it can’t rely on USA help. America has become fickle at best, untrustworthy and a bully at worst.

  14. A real leader for the world stage, not like our clown asses.
