West Irondequoit joins East Irondequoit, Spencerport, Hilton, Webster and Greece in utilizing the program.
Superintendent Aaron Johnson said the program will provide the district with an extra layer of protection for students.
“It’s a district of neighborhood schools,” Johnson said. “We’re a community that’s a walking district. We have a lot of pedestrians on the road.”
Monroe County said the program has issued 14,000 citations since its inception in October 2023, with 1,200 so far this school year.
Violators face a $250 for their first offense, with penalties escalating for repeat violations.
