    Hope we can create an agreement with more trade between Canada and Mexico too and bypass the USA. Gotta say our selection of products is lacking in Canada when we could import some awesome foods and flavours.

    I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical of Carney as our PM initially but I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Building partnerships is the way it’s gotta be in 2025, isolationist policies aren’t sustainable

    This is what happens when sane and normal people are in charge of countries. Hoping for the best for each of these partners and that their Agreement will be beneficial for both.

    A little worried, though, about any product that has to transit the US by road or rail. Maybe that won’t be necessary.

  19. This is old news. This was signed last month in Mexico City when PM Carney was there for a state visit.

  23. It is interesting as I follow the Canadian sub and there is always a contingent knocking the Carney government for not moving fast enough. They seem to think a government can produce new agreements out of thin air or on a moment’s notice.

    But as I am following trade closely for work reasons it is very apparent the Carney government has a lot of fingers dancing across the globe working on expanding trade. They signed a major agreement with Indonesia just a few weeks ago: Indonesia is the world’s 4th most populous country and rapidly growing as an economic power. They are in negotiations with the EU with a goal to finalize by the end of this year, and have negotiations underway with the ASEAN trading block with both sides mutually interested in getting it to the table asap. Japan, India, even China are all at the table. The Chinese Premier even floated having a free trade agreement with Canada in July.

    So that Canadian government is not sitting on its hands. And as Mexico is a major bilateral trading relationship this is a big win for the Carney govt.

    Carney stated today he believes his government will finalize some revised trade & tariff agreements with Trump in the forthcoming weeks. That is the first time he has gone on record stating a potential outcome is in the offing. While we are all skeptical of anything emanating from Taco Tuesday Trump we also know Canada is smart and has to date withstood all the Trump bullshit. So if Carney also puts this to bed it will really be a quite amazing run in a short time period.
