  1. I would usually put the stalk through a button hole on my shirt, that won’t work now!

Do they have a sticky pad on the back?

  2. I have a little crocheted one, it’s much nicer than the plaggy ones

  3. Utter woke nonsense! My grandfather didn’t die in the war.

  4. You can actually get both still. The box on my local Sainsbury’s petrol station has half plastic and half without in it.

  5. I always get the metal ones, they look excellent on my jacket all year round.

  6. Oh…but the one the rbl sent me said it was a special remembrance poppy..

  7. This makes a lot more sense since they’re all going to be binned in a few weeks

  8. For those that care to wear them they should also care about the environmental waste / impact of them.

    Choose reusable. Choose sustainable.

  9. I just grow my own poppies. It’s better for the environment, and I can make heroin out of them, which I sell to homeless people. Everybody wins.

  10. I thought they had been for a few years. It’s a good thing, but I can never get them to stay on now

  11. Eh, I don’t wear a poppy.

I am a member of the Royal British Legion, so I do support them. I just don’t feel a need to wear a poppy.

  12. Got our box today at work. Paper poppies, usual plastic ones, metal pins, wristbands and keyrings. Its just another option is all.

  13. I picked up a couple of the metal pin ones yesterday. After a few years in the Scouts and Air Cadets I still take it seriously even if I don’t do the parades any more. I *only* get RBL ones. Some other places sell them but don’t use the proceeds to support ex-forces personnel.

  14. As with all things – people will moan about change and be told off for moaning about it. They’ll be accused of not being progressive.

When in fact, what they dislike is the enshittification of things.

For me – this looks a little bit shit but hey better than the plastic ones!

  15. The white poppy has been recyclable since 2022

There’s a slot in the back for a safety pin, which makes it really easy to attach

  16. It looks kind of neat and minimal yet is still recognisable as a poppy. A very nice design, I like it!

I presume you just fasten them with a little pin, seems simple enough.

  17. If I have to wear a poppy it’s going to be a white one. Without getting too political.

  18. They actually brought these out in 2023

    > this year, for the first time, new plastic-free poppies will be available nationwide…
(From an email on 26th October 2023)

Having previously helped out the RBL, they have old boxes filled with the plastic ones, and they pack the little blue boxes from the old stock before moving onto the newer paper ones

The poppy collections are all arranged by your local branch of the Royal British Legion though so it depends on what they have in storage and what they’ve packed up in the boxes they send to shops etc. as that’s handled locally rather then centrally across the whole uk

  19. I remember when they used to have metal pins, we would stick them through a chunk of eraser and throw them at each other in school.

OK maybe that was a good change…

  20. Hello, lost German here and usually just lurking!

Would anyone be so kind and explain to me what the whole poppy thing is about? I’m curious!

  21. Did you know Canadians also wear poppies but ours look different then the UK ones

  22. They could be right-wing free, still won’t be wearing one.

    Outdated nonsense

  23. They always have been. They grow out of the fuckin ground.
