    The Trump administration plans to announce new sanctions on Russia as U.S.-led efforts to end the war in Ukraine falter and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pleads for additional military aid, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Wednesday.

    “We are going to announce either after the close this afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning a substantial pickup in Russia sanctions,” Bessent told reporters at the White House. His remarks came as NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte visited Washington for talks and prepared to meet President Donald Trump later in the day.

    Bessent did not disclose details about the sanctions but spoke shortly after a new wave of Russian missile and drone strikes hit Ukraine overnight, killing at least six people, including a woman and her two daughters. The attacks, which targeted at least eight cities and a village near Kyiv, set homes ablaze and injured 29 others, among them five children, Ukrainian officials said.

    – Freezing assets of companies founded under the USSR.
    – Ban on exporting of Russian salad dressing.
    – Prohibition of Russia’s use of the Imperial system.
    – Suspension of importing Matryoska dolls greater than six tiers.
    – Blocking Russian access to MySpace and AOL.

  28. Looks like they FINALLY implemented sanctions against russian oil companies. It just required Ukraine to destroy some good percentage of russia’s capacity before this was done.

  40. I think Trump thinks doing this on one side and saying Russia should get parts of Ukraine on the other side is some grand plan to get the parties to the bargaining table and strike a peace deal. *Nobel Priiiiize!* But I think the rest of the world sees it as just another TACO Tuesday.
