Mango founder’s son under scrutiny as police probe death • FRANCE 24 English

It was here in the Monserat mountains outside Barcelona where Isach Andic, founder of the Spanish fast fashion empire, Mango, fell 100 meters to his death while hiking with his eldest son, Jonathan, in December 2024. I was outside. I heard helicopters. I heard a lot of ambulance activity. And then I went down to see what was happening. I asked police, but no one would tell me anything. Later in the afternoon, the news came out that this man had fallen. The death was initially ruled an accident, but police confirm the investigation is still open, and reports say Jonathan is suspected of homicide. Jonathan, the only person present at the time of the accident, gave testimony that was inconsistent with forensic evidence and fueled suspicion, reported El Pais Daily. However, Catalan Regional Police told AFP the investigation is not targeting any specific person. Over there at that rock is where the helicopters were looking the most. I get the feeling that he fell behind the rock on this path, turned in that direction and went off towards the end, ending up at the monastery of Monserat. Jonathan began working at Mango in 2005 and is currently the vice chairman of the company’s board. The Endic family is one of the richest in Spain with Forbes estimating their fortune at nearly€3.9 billion. A year before his death, Isak Andic opened Mingo’s ownership, selling a 5% stake to current board chairman Tony Ruiz.

Spanish police have confirmed that their probe into the sudden death last year of Mango clothing empire founder Isak Andic remains open following reports his son has become a suspect. Andic, 71, died in December 2024 after plunging more than 100 metres while hiking with his eldest son Jonathan in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona.
