Who’d have thought never trying to sell yourself, but rather choosing to engage in the most negative campaign in recent Irish memory, while focusing all your attention on “woman does job” as a smear wouldn’t work?
Looks like Fine Gaels negative smear campaign has backfired and they’re going to get thumped at the ballot box, by a lot!
First preferences:
– Catherine Connolly: 44% (+8% since last poll)
– Heather Humphreys: 25% (no change since last poll)
– Jim Gavin: 10% (-2% since last poll)
– Undecided: 21% (-6% since last poll)
After undecided voters asked to choose candidate (and still undecided voters excluded):
– Catherine Connolly: 55%
– Heather Humphreys: 34%
– Jim Gavin: 11%
After Jim Gavin’s votes redistributed:
– Catherine Connolly: 61%
– Heather Humphreys: 39%
Every time Humphreys speaks it seems like 3 p.p. Increase in the polls for Connolly.
Maybe if she said nothing, there’d be a more even contest.
*Excluding Undecided Voters*
Connolly (IND-Left): 55.7% (+6.4)
Humphreys (FG): 31.6% (-2.6)
Gavin (FF): 12.7% (-3.8)
My expecation is Gavin underperforms this number and that both Connolly and Humphreys overperform as a result. Same material result.
Has anyone broke it to Fionann Shehan yet?.
Please DO NOT SPOIL VOTE JIM GAVIN.
Judging by the poll he’s almost at the threshold where FF would get their money back so it would just be rewarding them for running him.
I think the spoiled vote count could be quite high with this one.
People who i would not normally expect to do so, appear intent on spoiling their vote.
Probably going to be a low turnout.
The count should not take too long this time.
Get out and vote!
Could this be the first Irish Election that the majority centre-right Baby Boomer Generation’s chosen candidate (ie Humphries) gets beaten by Gen Z/Millinials chosen candidate (Connolly)
If so, it would be a seismic shift in Irish Politics.
Ba mhaith liom beith abalta get votes 😂😂😂
I was amazed, and not amazed, to hear some talking head on RTE 1 this morning describing HH’s performance in the debate last night in positive terms. They must think we didn’t watch it or that we’re all thick as bricks.
If Mairead McGuinness had not been so unfortunate to be ill, do you think she could have won it?
I think she might have.
FG were very unlucky there.
Let’s be honest here. This sub Reddit is a very left leaning sub. If you have any opinions which are against CC or the left you get shot down here quite quickly
First time im not voting. Theres a pong of shit off all the candidates. They all fucked over the common people at some stage in their careers. Its not as bad as Trump but im ashamed this is what we have to put up with.
Which one is she again
Ya I was leaning toward Catherine Connolly anyways, not completely sold on her but thought she was the best of the 3. Since it went to two people though, Heather Humphreys hasn’t given a single reason to vote for her. I grew up in the country too, and the whole thing about Fox hunting being a rural pursuit I find really insulting and hiding behind people.
I knew nobody who took part in the hunt and all the farmers around me, hated the hunt and it’s the reason they put locks on all their gates. The hunt would open your gate, run through your land to get to a fox. They’d make an absolute mess of your land, scare all your animals and you’d be lucky if they closed the gate after them. Most of the time you’d see a ton of English reg cars parked at the local pub that they used as a gathering point. It’s not part of any culture that I grew up with, and in the modern age it should not be a thing anymore. If you were to use your dog to mutilate another animal you’d be called a savage. Put on a fancy coat, get on a horse with 40 other people, it’s now a ‘rural pursuit’.
I know there was questions over Catherine Connolly’s decision making but there was a public backlash to Ivan Yates comments on making this a smear campaign. Heather Humphreys said she wouldn’t make this a smear campaign. Then is just convinced to make this a smear campaign. I just don’t think she would be someone who would stand up to anything and would just go with the flow of FG. I know it’s not the role of the president to make decisions but I liked Michael D calling the government too for failing at stuff.
Unreal that one of these will be on a 350k salary.
Watching FG flailing and choosing to double down on the weaksauce attack campaign is pathetic to witness.
Imagine if Jim Gavin got more votes than Heather Numpty 🤣
Anyone looking at these polls needs to remember Peter Casey going from 2% in the run up to 20% on the exit if you think it’s a lock.
It’s just a depressing choice. Neither of them have any real appeal. If FF had just dug up a mediocre former senator with no scandals and the ability to read a script they’d have walked it, instead of going for a “celebrity” candidate they didn’t vet. (I’m not saying that would have been the best choice for the country, just that the bar is so low, it’s amazing they still tunneled under it).
