The chairman and CEO of the Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE), Manos Manousakis, expressed confidence that the European Commission will play a positive and constructive role in continuing the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection project, speaking on Wednesday at the Renewable & Storage conference held in Athens.
“I have seen an increasing level of EU involvement on the issue since the summer. The Commission is now engaged at the highest level, with the energy commissioner participating in the meetings. The people we are in contact with are doing everything possible to ensure the project continues,” he stated.
He added: “Greece’s determination is clear – both declared and demonstrated through ongoing actions – to continue the project, which is considered of great strategic importance. For this to happen, ADMIE must feel fully assured regarding Cyprus’ stance toward the project. A spirit of unity is essential, and from what I see lately, we are moving in that direction.”
