Gaza: a bakery reopens, a lifeline for families on the brink of starvation • FRANCE 24 English

These gardens are baking hope in the form of hundreds of thousands of fresh pitter loaves each day in De Alba. The city’s largest bakery is now back in operation. It’s supported by the world food program which plans to open 30 more. They are now pumping out 300,000 pieces of bread every single day. And that’s because we can now get the flour, uh, the sugar, the yeast in, but also importantly the fuel that actually motors these machines. And it just demonstrates that when the when a ceasefire holds, we can really quickly rebuild. We can get the food production working again. And this is going to head off the starvation that we’ve seen by opening up these bakeries, these kitchens, by pumping out food at this level. We want to get a million meals out there every day, and we’re on track to do that. Under the ceasefire agreement, 600 aid trucks are supposed to enter Gaza daily. UN officials say convoys Friday struggled to reach famine hit areas north of Gaza, where war damaged roads and blocked routes have left communities cut off. Since the ceasefire began, the World Food Program has been able to deliver an average of 560 tons of food a day. But even that, officials say, barely scratches the surface of need.

In Gaza, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is offering a brief window for aid to reach those in desperate need. In one city, its largest bakery is once again up and running — a lifeline for families on the brink of starvation. Story by Charlotte Lam.

  1. Someone will say Hamas took control and started selling them at s higher price. Because apparently people are walking with money in Gaza. And even if they were, there isn't much they can do with it when they live inside a prison.

  2. It's not enough and IOF still target bakeries and the workers and block ingredients and also attack farms and farmers.
End Israel. End Israel. End Israel.

  3. Ahhh now they are on the brink of starvation… I thought Hamas 24 was saying they were starving to death for months because of Israël (and not because of Hamas stealing the food by the way)… Was this just lies?

  4. Tell Hamas to beat it if they really want peace for the Gazan people .
Would you want Hamas to be your governing neighbor if they murdered your people .

  5. Still, Palestinians have not fulfilled their part of the peace deal by returning all the deceased hostages and still they are getting Aid?

  6. good don’t stop please 🙏 whats about vegetables fruits potatoes rice ,can anybody flood Gaza with stuff like that ?

  7. Give it a break, will you. Nobody is starving. There is not one video showing any malnourished person in Gaza, save for the children with pre-existing conditions. Just stop lying. You lose all credibility.

  8. it is good that all those mass starvation bakers are able to stand and bake bread for the people who are weak and on deaths door

  9. The best way to disarm Hamas is making them fat.
Notice Hamas leaders have never joined the fight, cause they are fat.

  10. If there were starvation, why the workers look healthy. Because if they were starved they wouldn't have the energy to work.

  11. Now just deal w the inconveniences caused by rampant inbreeding, UNHRA hate mongering “education”, and a culture of hatred and the place will be fine
