Last weekend I went to Kuusamo to hike part of the famous Karhunkierros — the Bear Trail, one of the most beautiful routes in Finland. In autumn, the forest there turns into a perfect mix of gold, red, and deep green — a true northern palette.
My goal was to reach the old wooden mill by the river, hidden in a small valley. As I got closer, I could hear the sound of rushing water and the creak of old wood — it felt like stepping into another time.
The day was overcast, with soft, diffused light — perfect for photography. I spent a few hours there capturing the river, reflections, and the mill surrounded by autumn colors.
If you ever visit Finland in autumn, Kuusamo and the Bear Trail should be high on your list. It’s a place where nature still feels wild and alive, and every turn of the path tells a new story.

Beautiful looking spot!
Great hike. Shitload of people in summer though
Go and recommend the old mill on Karhunkierros here, too;

and link to your thread.
[https://maps.app.goo.gl/pmtHbHUdxcp49md66](https://maps.app.goo.gl/pmtHbHUdxcp49md66) called Myllykoski. Whitewater rafting and kayaking is done there. You can even sleep in the mill, if you can take the rapid sounds. 😉
Also a fun fact: when you do your whitewater raft guide course you have to swim from the mill to the next eddie/still water. Never do that by yourself without professionals and safety gear.
I did it once the small trail in the winter. That mill looks fantastic at anytime of the year.
are they grilling tofu? 😦
Great spot for Hiking
