The Prague 8 district of Karlín is set to become the backdrop for the next installment in the Resident Evil franchise, with filming scheduled between Oct. 29 and Nov. 2, according to local officials and production representatives.

Preparations for the large-scale American production will take place from Oct. 24-28, with nighttime filming running daily from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. The shoot will involve extensive special effects, including artificial snow, fast driving, and simulated gunfire.

The production crew behind the filming, Lokacni.cz, has issued warnings to residents and business owners about temporary restrictions and noise. Jirsíkova and Malého streets will be closed to vehicles, while parts of Pernerova and Vítkova streets will face parking restrictions.

“The filming will involve gunfire, fast driving, and other action sequences. We understand this may be disturbing, so these scenes will be carried out with respect for nighttime quiet hours,” it said in a statement.

A short sound test for simulated shooting is planned for Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Pernerova, Jirsíkova, and Malého streets. Residents have also been asked to turn off indoor lights during filming to support the dark, nighttime atmosphere of the scenes.

A proven country for global movies

Shooting for the film got underway on Oct. 10 in the Ústí nad Labem town of Litoměřice. Producer Lukáš Škoda of Stillking Films said Czechia was selected for its distinctive architecture and diverse locations, The Prague Reporter writes.

Stillking Features, operating from Prague’s Barrandov Studios, is handling local production and has supported major international films like Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Snowpiercer.

The Czech Audiovisual Fund granted Resident Evil CZK 191 million, with a total domestic budget of CZK 764 million, joining recent high-profile horror and sci-fi projects filmed in Czechia, including Nosferatu and Blade Runner 2099.

The upcoming sequel brings a well-known team to Prague, including director Zach Cregger, known for the 2022 horror hit Barbarian, and cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, a frequent collaborator on major Hollywood productions such as Pirates of the Caribbean.

The new film continues the long-running Resident Evil saga, inspired by Capcom’s popular video game series about a deadly virus that transforms humans into zombies. Filming will continue in Prague and surrounding areas through January 2025.

Resident Evil follows the spread of weaponized viral agents and the global efforts to stop them. The series spans video games, films, and television adaptations featuring recurring characters and evolving threats.

According to publicly available information, the full feature film Resident Evil (2026), a reboot of the franchise, is scheduled to be released on Sept. 18, 2026, in the U.S.
