The Montenegrin women’s senior football team will play the first of two friendly matches against Croatia tomorrow in Zmijavci, near Split.
This will be the first test for coach Mirko Marić’s team for next year’s UEFA Nations League B.
“The expectations are that we play our best and see how valuable we are in a duel with a team like Croatia, and what awaits us in the next cycle. This is a serious team, we have done our analysis, we will prepare to give our maximum,” said coach Marić.
Montenegrin women’s football team earned promotion to the higher tier of European football in June and are on a five-match unbeaten streak.
They want to maintain a positive streak even after Croatia, the national team that will play in the tier below them next season – League C.
“The result is always important, but through training and the way we play in Croatia we will try to improve compared to the previous period. That’s what we have to do, to improve some segments of the game, if we want to compete with future rivals, because we have serious games ahead of us in League B,” Marić emphasized.
He emphasized that he is pleased that more and more Montenegrin female footballers are playing in stronger national leagues and have strong club matches.
“I’m satisfied, you can see from the training what condition they are in. When you come from serious clubs, you notice it immediately. It makes it easier for me and my associates to work, especially when it comes to the physical aspect. That’s very important, because in competitive matches we will play against physically very high-quality and prepared players and teams,” said Marić.
The duel at the Marijan Šuto Mrma Sports Center will start at 15 p.m.
A new duel between the same rivals is scheduled for Monday at the Croatian Knights Stadium in Dugopolje (12).
