At the crossroads of history and pleasure, Prague’s techno scene is booming. From warehouse raves under Lahovický most to candlelit monastery chambers, the city is becoming Europe’s new center for underground music.
This energy peaks on Friday, Oct. 31, when SOUND returns to the Gabriel Loci monastery for a night filled with Berlin- and London-style electronic music in one of Prague’s most mysterious venues.
After a planned renovation was delayed, SOUND is returning to where it all started.
“SOUND is focused solely on electronic music. It’s an immersive journey set within the hidden chambers of one of Prague’s most mysterious monasteries,” says organizer Dan Bacho, who has helped make the event a defining one for Prague’s rave scene.
This year’s outing will change five unique spaces in the Neo-Romanesque monastery: the grand Chandelier Hall, the dark Crypt, the Vaulted Cellar, the industrial Server Room, and the chill-out place called the Garden of Eden. Each area will have its own sound design, visual identity, and atmosphere, creating five distinct worlds under one roof.
The lineup showcases nearly twenty DJs and producers, led by Supergloss and Lyrik from Berlin and Polish techno artist Błażej Malinowski. They will share the stage with Prague’s underground talents, including Fatty M, Pink Concrete, Lyric, ka.za, Nika77, and Täino, among others.
As always, Multiverse Studios will enhance the experience with immersive light and visual installations. They’ll turn Gabriel Loci’s ancient stone walls into a colorful maze of motion and sound.
Prague’s scene is catching up
When people think “techno,” Berlin often comes to mind. However, Prague’s scene is catching up quickly. Even well-known artists like FKA Twigs have praised the city’s “amazing underground of East Bloc warehouse raves,” calling it a source of inspiration for her album Eusexua.
As Berlin becomes more gentrified, Prague’s welcoming, community-focused vibe is attracting a new wave of creative expats, producers, and ravers.
