Our dearest friends Alyona and Ghenja were killed today in a Russian drone strike.

This morning we received a call from Alexander, the director of our shelter The Holland House and father of our dear friend and cameraman Yevhen Karmazin (Ghenja).
He told us that Ghenja was killed in a targeted Russian drone attack on their car.

Our friend and journalist Alyona, with whom we were in daily contact, was also in the car and was killed as well.

Our friend and driver Sacha was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

It is truly incomprehensible.
Why did these kind, innocent people in a civilian car have to die in a targeted attack with a Lancet drone?

We can hardly put into words how deep our grief is.
Ghenja and Alyona were not only our colleagues, they were our best friends, our family there.
Ghenja was our regular cameraman in Ukraine and had become our brother in everything we did. More than 70% of all our footage from Ukraine was filmed by him.

Alyona and Sacha were also with us when we survived the missile strike in Kramatorsk.
We shared so many intense, but also beautiful moments together.

Next week we were supposed to travel to Ukraine again to provide humanitarian aid with them.
In December, they were finally going to visit the Netherlands for the first time something Ghenja had been so excited about. He had never been outside Ukraine.
He leaves behind a five-year-old son.

Honestly, we don’t know how to go on from here. But one thing is certain: we will not give up.

Their deaths will only make us more determined to continue doing good

  1. Every Ukrainian killed in this war is a war crime.

  2. My heart is with you, their families and friends. Unfortunately this is why it’s so important to fight for Ukraine and give the smiles and breaks from the pain Ukrainians are going through every day. I hope you’ll continue to do what you’re doing, but understand how hard it is without your close friends and support.

My heart is with you ❤️‍🩹 and hope their souls are comforted in knowing the work they did with you.

  3. So sorry for your loss, Franky and Coen. May his son grow up and grow old in a free Ukraine. I hope Sacha heals up well, this is yet another horrible attack. RIP heroes

  4. They must’ve been amazing people. Very sorry for your loss. Rest In Peace Ghenja and Alyona. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦

  6. RIP to such brave and beautiful souls. Another terrible war crime. 🙏

  7. This is devastating to hear. I’m a Ukrainian living in NL and I’ve been following your good work from the start. So sorry to learn some of your friends and colleagues have passed. But glad that this will not mean you’ll give up. Ukraine needs people like Alyona, Ghenja and you and the world needs to hear these stories!

  8. Everyday, I come here to get any updates and am still so sad to hear about these tragedies. Alyona and Ghenja should have lived longer and witnessed much deserved freedom 😢 Hope and pray Sacha can be recovered and well again. My heart and thoughts are with heros involved in this unfair atrocity.

I’ll keep supporting you. Please be safe 🙏

  9. So sorry for their passing, вічная пам’ять 🫂🌻

  10. “russian bloggers”, russian propagandist, russian content-war-creators needs to get the same treatment through different methods, i like the pager method or their PC/parts, or devices, even their smartphones.

  11. Very sad. RIP. Let’s hope Putin falls from a window soon.

  12. Russian subhuman scum, this has to be targetted somehow. RIP heroes

  13. the point is pure terrorism, russian has given up on military targets behind the front lines long ago, i bet the people that spot ukranian legit military targets inside ukraine have a hard time convincing their bosses to allocate resources for a one less terrorist attack

  14. I hope those responsible will be found one day. Ukrainian Mossad will surely hand justice to them.

So sad to have to be so angry in an age where it should have never happened again. I wish all the strength to the Ukrainian people.

  15. God, why must this continue for so long. Innocent people dying right before our eyes… May they rest in peace.

  16. It’s hard to bear this. They died for showing the truth. Very sorry.

  17. Im so sorry for your loss. I wish you didnt have to experience the brutality of the Russians so directly.

    They are unfortunately animals.

    Gecondoleerd.
