Dave Cleary is nothing more than murdering scum. He should be spending the rest of his life in jail. Instead, the serial killer gets to walk free.
Can we scrap the phrase “British Justice” as there is no such fucking thing.
Reminder that not guilty doesn’t mean someone didn’t do something it means that it didn’t reach the standard of beyond a reasonable doubt for the crime(s) that is accused. An example would be for instance in this case, could the prosecution prove that it was this specific soldier who killed the people alleged. If there was a lack of due diligence in evidence collection or straight up malfeasance of the RUC at the time it might not reach that standard. Eye witnesses can be very convincing but it has been more than 50 years so a lot of the people involved would have already passed or maybe aren’t fit to testify due to age and stuff.
Absolute scum
Soldier F is Lance Corporal David James Cleary.
“The master’s tools shall not take apart the master’s house”
Fucking disgusting colonial justice. My heart absolutely breaks for the families and people of Derry and how both governments perennially fail our cousins in the 6.
Looking forward to all our brave patriots who were rioting the last few nights absolutely decrying this… Oh wait, they walked hand in hand with them 2 months ago.
This makes FFFG’s recent total capitulation on the UK’ “Legacy” agenda (creating a now agreed two tier system of justice where ex Soldiers recieve special protection and privileges) even more despicable.
It seems to have passed many by in recent weeks but I hope it will now be given more scrutiny and the government challenged on what they have done in selling out victims of British State terror.
Heartbreaking for the families. I cannot imagine the kind of fortitude it takes to continue to pursue justice in the maw of the British state.
Shame on their government and judicial system.
I don’t think anyone expected this solider to be held accountable
Absolute disgrace. David Cleary and a fellow soldier had a “mobile torture chamber” and used to pull catholics off the streets and torture them.
He’s nothing more than a sadistic murdering scumbag and he should have been locked away a long time ago.
And people will go vote for that orange wagon tomorrow.
Didn’t Catherine Connolly get absolutely blasted for saying the UK govt isn’t our ally?
This country needs such a reckoning with it’s own bloody history and a mature conversation on the violence that brought about our freedom
The British state is rotten to the core
Thoughts are with the families of those who’s lives were taken so maliciously
what a kangroo court.
judge said there was no such thing as “collective guilt”.
100% guarantee that if 12-15 irish citizens intentionally fired at guns at unarmed people, all 15 would be convicted of 1st degree murder and the defence of “everyone bullets except mine were the lethal bullets” would be laughed out of court
Fucking disgraceful, but sadly not surprised in the least. Heartbreaking that their family will never se justice
That’s british ‘justice’ for you, protecting murderers. The british govt is a terrorist organisation.
Was sad to read this, the judge said there wasnt enough proof. Next up will be the Court of Appeal so its not over yet. I hope the families get justice
Still going to extradite republicans up North to face trial I assume? Two tier justice.
Let’s hear more about how bad the IRA was and how Irish culture is a threat to people in the north.
Not surprised in the slightest. The British army are cowards. Let the British never moan about the IRA or Al Qaeda or any other group as they have been shown to murder civilians too.
Perfidious Albion.
This was sadly always likely to be the outcome. It happened such a long time ago that all witness statements have to be seen to be unreliable. Proving to the level required was a huge ask of the prosecution.
Never was it truer to say justice delayed is justice denied.
Never again will I listen to a British person lecture about the IRA and how they were the worst element of the conflict. There was always too much focus on the symptoms of the conflict and not the elements that caused it.
“We investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong!”
I won’t hold my breath awaiting Mehole’s statement of condemnation
Fuck this, obviously, but as an aside, the deployment of the British Army on the streets and the ongoing defence of British Army violence is a tacit admission that Northern Ireland is occupied foreign territory.
Disappointing but not surprising.
An impartial judge and jury should have been used.
But at the same time Not Guilty doesn’t mean innocent. It just means that burden of proof wasn’t met.
Sky News is on in the background of a cafe I’m at. No news about this, but a big poppy appeal being launched by Royal British Legion. No wonder James McClean doesn’t wear a poppy, think 7 from Creggan were killed that day, and the British media is promoting the annual poppy appeal over the Bloody Sunday case.
Zero surprise. Fuck the British establishment and fuck anyone in Ireland who aligns themselves with them.
Quelle surprise
I’d love to hear the presidential candidates’ opinions on this
The British state have to be the biggest terrorist group on this planet
Fuckung vile
It seems like the Judge believes Soldier F did it but just can’t find him officially guilty.
>According to a summary of today’s judgement, the court was satisfied that the following facts regarding 30 January 1972 had been established:
>That soldiers G, H, F and E were “part of the initial group of soldiers who entered Glenfada Park North and were responsible for the deaths [Mr McKeever and Mr Wray] and woundings” of “four (possibly five) others”
>Soldiers G, H, F and E “had totally lost all sense of military discipline”
>”Those who fought valiantly against SS Panzer Divisions in 1944, have had their Regiment sullied by some of their successors, shooting in the back unarmed civilians fleeing from them in the streets of a British city. Those responsible should hang their heads in shame”
And then a later statement:
>The summary of today’s judgement states that “whatever suspicions the court may have about the role of F, this court is constrained and limited by the evidence properly presented before it”.
>”To convict it has to be upon evidence that is convincing and manifestly reliable.”
>Judge Lynch says the evidence failed to “reach the high standard of proof required in a criminal case; that of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.”
>”Therefore, I find the accused not guilty on all seven counts on the present bill of indictment.”
interesting that the judge put the killings down to lack of discipline meaning that the british army didn’t know they were going to behave like this. The same guys were involved in the Ballymurphy estate months previous
First para are front line aggressive soldiers, Nobody would think they were suitable for a policing role, they did what they were put there to do
