The main opposition party, Tisza, has organized a massive rally on Hungary’s national holiday, October 23. The crowd is enormous. People are arriving from several directions; there’s an “official” march whose front has already reached the destination, while the end is still standing at the square where the gathering began and that area is still packed.
Many people in the crowd are saying they’ve never seen a demonstration this big before. Even Endre Hann, a well-known and experienced pollster, mentioned the same. The event was organized by Péter Magyar, the party’s leader.
Along the route, there are verse recitals, live reenactments recalling the 1956 revolution, and musical stops. The march also passed by the Russian Embassy, where people chanted “Ruszkik haza!” (“Russians go home!”) one of the slogans of the 1956 revolution, which feels just as relevant today.
For 80 days before the march, he travelled across the country, drawing huge crowds in many places. Thousands of people spoke with him and had the chance to ask questions. He visited even the smallest villages (including slums), personally talking to people in difficult circumstances, as well as larger towns and cities. In the past weeks, he also introduced several well-known experts. According to the polls, the Tisza Party continues to lead ahead of Fidesz.
Oh, and it’s raining.
Go Hungary!Depose the Toad
It definitely feels like the largest we ever had, this is hundreds of thousands of people at the minimum, we have a line of 3 km or so made out of people who are marching to the heroes square
As an outsider, it’s quite amazing to me how much a country’s happenstance history and other arbitrary factors like geography etc. shapes its present.
We like to think that we control our fate but so much of it is just forces greater than any person or movement.
The reasons why Russians were never truly free for example had very little to do with human decisions.
Anyway, hoping to see a political change there nonetheless.
And of course Orban media is not reporting it.
good good
Serbia is with you
I hope it will change something
Good
This is so cool.
Good luck fellas, kick that fatass all the way to his daddy Putin
Is it pro-Viktor or contra-Viktor?
Say no to Orbán, say no to Putin! Freedom, Europe!
Our memories on this day belong to the heroes of the 1956 Revolution
I waited an hour to start the walk than walked an hour and still only reached half point
Orbán and his Kremlin acolytes should be thrown down hard by the Hungarian people! Good job Hungary! Take your country back from the Kremlin salesman!
How are Orbans voting results?
I mean nice that people use their democratic rights and protest, but will it have an impact or does most people atill vote for this guy?
From America, if you don’t mind, good luck to you all.
I have a Hungarian parent. We used to go every year, until… Well, it got bad. I hope so dearly things change for the better, and seeing this gives me hope.
It seems like the template to erode Democracy as created by Putin and Aleksandr Dugin was implemented in Hungary and became the proving-ground for applying to the USA.
I wish Hungarians luck because that in turn gives us hope here in America.
Show Orban how mad you are. This guy and his friends are sucking up all money for BS
Orbán 🤢🤮🤮
Good luck Hungary! Please get rid of that shit for your sake and for ours too 😭😭 (mfer is blocking EU’s sanctions against our criminal government)
Remember this photo before commenting to kick out Hungary from the EU, the people deserve to be part of it,, the government hopefully changes soon!
The piggie in charge just posted a pic saying “we were twice as many”
Idk if I’m the lesser mind here, but if I were this deep in shit as they are now, I would urge on my supporters to stand up in these hard times, instead of boasting about an easy win so they dont become complacent
Good luck Hungarians. You can do it!
From an American, I am so glad to see this. I just can’t bring myself to visit with Orban in power — I don’t want to support that regime — but I’ve always thought Budapest was the most beautiful city I’d ever visited and have been dying to go back.
(And maybe one day we’ll manage to achieve the same change, because… this freaking guy we got over here, man, I tell ya what…)
I love to see it! Free and Democratic Hungary on-board with the rest of Europe! Keep it up!
Romanian neighbor here and we support the hungarian people! We love u!
Please get this Russian toad out of office
Your beautiful country deserves so much better, hopefully the movement will result in some real change coming april! All the best of Luck! 🇭🇺 🇳🇱
My grandparents fled during the revolution. We are the only branch of our family outside of Hungary, living in Canada. I still feel such a connection to my homeland whenever I visit. Even if I never grew up there, I love the people, the food, the architecture – everything. My uncle has taken me across about a quarter of the country!
It always breaks my heart when I hear about Hungary in the news, because it is almost always Orban and his goons being scum.
Today is different. Today is hopeful. Szerelem Kanadàbòl!
(I know the accents are wrong, Canadian keyboard)
I just got home a short while ago. HUGE turnout from all over Hungary. Just wonderful to be a part of and see the desire for change in so many.
The streets were filled, people peacefully walking the whole of Andrassy Avenue and more.
All of these people need to vote to counter the propaganda, the rural brainwashed folks, and the party benefactors. It definitely feels like there is a spirit for change. But I am too jaded to be optimistic yet.
Very proud of the Budapestites
Good luck to Hungary and anyone fighting an authoritarian government. They will lose. The power is with the people!
What’s the rally about?
Fuck Orban, fuck Fides.
Lets hope he fucks off next election
Germany with you 🇪🇺🕊️🇩🇪🇭🇺
Go hungary!! Good luck from Slovakia!!
Protesting for what?
roast that pig
Come on Hungarians
Can someone explain why are the protests happening?
Free Hungary and the EU from the dictatorship created by Orbán!
Bravo, Hungarians! This American is cheering you on and hoping you can remove Orban!
