Questions about D.O.G.E. ideas for Iowa

  • 23.10.2025

DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) — Over the next three months, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and state legislators can sort through the list of 45 recommendations that the Iowa D.O.G.E. Task Force released to modernize, save money, and reshape state government.

Read the full report and recommendations here.

The public will also now have the chance to let decisionmakers know which ideas they support and which ones they do not.

Here are some questions for the elected officials as they sort through the ideas:

Technology — Will the task force’s recommendations for increased reliance on technology better serve Iowans? Will artificial intelligence provide the customer service that Iowans deserve? Will it free up state employees to focus on other areas of service? Will technology save taxpayers money by providing similar or enhanced quality? Will technology replace state workers?

Education — Will the task force’s ideas to reward high performing teachers lead to greater job satisfaction for educators? Will legislators provide the necessary funding to pay for this? Will this competition increase teacher performance and student learning overall? Or will it pit teachers against each other and reduce collaboration? How will districts measure performance?

Shared Services — The task force wants local governments to work with each other to provide services to the community. Will these agreements reduce overhead and lessen costs? Will this provide a pathway to reduce local property taxes? Do legislators need to provide funding for this concept? Or will they just encourage local leaders to do this on their own in the hopes of future cost savings?
