4. Reporters left the Pentagon because they refused to sign new, restrictive press rules imposed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, which they said would infringe on their First Amendment rights. The new policies, which required prior authorization for all news gathering, would have punished reporters for seeking information beyond what the Pentagon officially approved. As a result, dozens of journalists from major news organizations turned in their access badges and left the building.
