Pediatric surgeon and Doctor of Medical Sciences from Ivano-Frankivsk, Oleh Kurtash, call sign *Professor*, serves in the 95th Air Assault Polissya Brigade. He took part in combat operations in the Lyman and Toretsk directions, and later in Russia’s Kursk region. Despite injuries sustained on the front, Oleh continues his service. However, he dreams of once again treating children, teaching students, being with his family, and caring for his pets.
Since 2008, Oleh worked as a surgeon at the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Children’s Hospital. He also pursued science, becoming an assistant professor at the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University and earning the title of Doctor of Medical Sciences.
He wrote his doctoral dissertation before the full-scale invasion, defending it while serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which he joined in 2023.
**“They Announced a Reward for Me”**
Oleh witnessed instances when Russians deliberately shot at evacuation vehicles. They also set traps for Ukrainian medics.
Despite all Russian war crimes, he provided medical assistance to both captured Russian soldiers and civilians in the Kursk region.
>*”This is what distinguishes us from our enemy – we have humanity. Despite all their atrocities, you must always start with yourself and ask yourself certain questions. That’s my life philosophy,”* he says.
Oleh says the Russians use information about his academic degree to create fakes about him.
>*”They announced a reward for me. They write that supposedly I conducted experiments on their POWs and residents of the Kursk region. That’s absurd.”*
>In 2024, Oleh took part in the Kursk operation. With his brigade, he carried out missions in the city of Sudzha and nearby settlements.
He recalls finding a dog in a welded cage in a Russian settlement. Its owners had evacuated, leaving the pet to die.
>*”It was the dog of a Russian colonel. As far as I understand, they welded it in the cage so no one could take it. It’s a very rare purebred Caucasian shepherd – we don’t have such dogs in Ukraine. It’s a bit like an Alabai, but a completely different breed,”* Oleh says.
Together with his comrades, he rescued the dog, cared for it, and eventually brought it to Ukraine.
>*”He was near death – skin and bones. I carried him in my arms. We thought he wouldn’t survive, but slowly, on rations, we brought him back. Now he’s 95 kilograms..*
**“We Are Not the Underdog”**
>*”By defending our independence now, we prove not only to Russians but also to our European neighbors and transatlantic partners that we are a strong nation. We are not the ‘underdog’ as some thought.*
He believes Ukraine’s future success depends on the active involvement of every individual Ukrainian.
>*”Don’t wait for the government. Don’t look for some ‘adult.’ Everyone must do their best in their own area of responsibility.*

That dog loves him big time, and so do I in a fraternal way. Thank you, Oleh! You’re doing God’s work out there! Your skills are much needed and appreciated in ways that cannot be measured!
Color his fur so the enemy can’t identify him. Also, very visible with his white fur.
The russian owner locking his dog in a welded (!) cage before leaving. What a total POS, but very much in character for russians. Also this man Oleh is a hero!
Bless this man. I hope he survives this atrocious war and is able to reclaim happiness and peace once again. Glory to Ukraine. 🇺🇦
JUST ONE MORE IN A NATION OF HEROES!
GOD BLESS UKRAINE! 🇺🇦
Live long, live strong, live happy. All the best.
no bone spurs found
the world needs more Ukraine
Slava Urkaini
Be safe man
Seriously, only the Russians could put a bounty on a life-saving doctor. He’s probably saved Russian lives as well, in the course of the war.
A hero of the highest order!
who puts a bounty on a medic? russia’s full of dumbfucks.
Always go for the white mage first. -Orcs.
