WANA (Oct 24) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday night condemned the Israeli Knesset’s recent resolution on the annexation of the West Bank, describing it as a blatant violation of the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.
Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, called the Knesset’s decision a clear breach of international law and strongly denounced it.
He described the move as yet another step in Israel’s colonial and criminal expansionism — a continuation of eight decades of persistent violations of the Palestinian people’s fundamental right to self-determination — and a breach of peremptory norms of international law, particularly the right of nations to self-determination.
Referring to Israel’s ongoing gross violations of human rights and humanitarian law in the West Bank alongside the genocide in Gaza, Baghaei stated:
“The declared and enacted policies of the Israeli regime in the West Bank — including the repeated illusion of a so-called ‘Greater Israel,’ the establishment of new settlements, and the passing of new resolutions in the Knesset — all confirm the regime’s plan for comprehensive ethnic cleansing across the entire occupied Palestine. This situation heightens the responsibility of all governments to take effective measures to prevent the ongoing ‘colonial eradication’ of Palestine.”
Baghaei called for urgent action by Islamic countries and the international community to stop this blatant encroachment on the historical rights of the Palestinian nation and emphasized the United Nations’ responsibility to halt Israel’s ongoing assaults on Palestinian identity and rights.
