This growth, and Argentina, Brazil and Italy, suggest increased international and domestic travel. The ability of passengers to travel to Argentina as a tourism destination has immensely increased with the international and domestic travel routes from Buenos Aires to Madrid. Aside from Argentina, positive results reported out of Brazil and Italy indicate a continuous demand for embarkation.
The results from September indicate an increase in tourist travel and passenger growth for a number of these countries. The impressive success of Argentina is attributed to a growth of 13.3 percent in total passenger traffic. This exceptional performance is attributed to the international and domestic travel contracts that Leave Buenos Aires for Madrid. Brazil and Italy suggest an enhance demand for business travel as well as tourism.
Argentina Leads the Charge in Passenger Traffic Growth
Argentina’s tourism sector enjoyed a substantial boost in September 2025, with total passenger traffic rising by 13.3 percent compared to the previous year. This surge was fuelled by increased demand for both international and domestic flights, particularly to and from Buenos Aires. International traffic saw a 15.9 percent rise, with a notable increase in flights between Buenos Aires and Madrid, which operated six daily flights. The high load factors of these flights, often exceeding 96 percent, reflect strong international demand.
Domestically, Argentina also performed well, with a 12.1 percent growth in passenger traffic. This positive trend can be attributed to the resurgence of key routes within the country, particularly from Buenos Aires to other major Argentine cities. Furthermore, the resumption of Copa Airlines’ flights to Salta, a route suspended since the pandemic, has bolstered the country’s connectivity, further enhancing tourism prospects in the region.
Brazil and Italy: Strong Performers in September
Brazil, with its well-established tourism infrastructure, recorded a 9.0 percent increase in passenger traffic in September 2025. A surge in domestic travel, up 12.8 percent, indicates a strong domestic tourism recovery, while international traffic grew by 8.7 percent. While the international segment still remains a small portion of Brazil’s overall traffic, the increase shows growing interest from overseas travellers, especially those visiting major cities such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
Italy, a perennial hotspot for international tourists, saw a 7.0 percent increase in passenger traffic, driven by a rise in international visitors. The contribution of Ryanair, which increased flight frequencies, played a key role in boosting international passenger numbers. Florence and Pisa airports saw particularly high growth, with Florence experiencing a 16.2 percent increase in traffic. This growth reinforces Italy’s status as a key European destination for leisure and cultural tourism, with international visitors flocking to iconic destinations like Rome, Venice, and Milan.
Challenges in Uruguay and Ecuador: Impact on Tourism
Despite positive results in several countries, CAAP faced declines in passenger traffic in both Uruguay and Ecuador. Uruguay, with its reliance on international routes, experienced a 4.1 percent drop in traffic, influenced by JetSMART’s removal of the Montevideo–Buenos Aires route and temporary closures due to the installation of a new landing system. Although the decline in passenger numbers is concerning, the situation is expected to improve with the completion of infrastructure upgrades.
Similarly, Ecuador saw a 5.3 percent decline in passenger traffic, affected by domestic security concerns and high airfare costs. A key international route, Ecuador to the US, saw a decrease in demand, with domestic traffic also experiencing a dip. However, efforts to improve the country’s tourism infrastructure and attract international visitors to destinations like Quito and the Galápagos Islands are expected to mitigate the downturn in the coming months.
Tourism Growth Amid Global Challenges
The global tourism industry has had its share of challenges, whether it’s demand, economic difficulties, or disruptions related to the pandemic. Yet, Corporacion America Airports recent data suggests the recovery of major markets. Argentina, Brazil, and Italy are at the forefront. The increase of passengers, especially on international routes, shows the unabated thirst for travel and the burgeoning of travel and tourism by air.
Notwithstanding the downfall of specific markets, the continued increase of passenger in combination with the recovery of global tourism suggests bright prospects ahead. The capacity of Corporacion America Airports to both sustain and increase air traffic under such conditions signals the vitality of the tourism industry, and the unquenchable thirst of travelers to Latin America and Europe.
