  1. Pretty sure they know they are meant to stop, they just don’t give a shit because it would be so difficult to enforce such a rule

  2. Surely this is something you learn as a child?

  3. I think they actually need to build a sort of obstacle like a narrow channel that forces them all to slow down to get past those mini crossings. A bit like the posts they have on some roads that force cars to slow right down and squeeze through

  4. yeah but how will i maintain my tempo and momentum if i keep stopping at zebra crossings on my electric bike

  5. Oh, they know they’re supposed to stop. They just don’t.

  6. I feel I ride considerately, I will usually stop or slow down around bus stops being used for everyone’s safety, but honestly didn’t know this was a rule crossing wise without the lights in sticks or whatever they are.

  7. The highways code is for everyone. Yet drivers don’t follow any of those rules.

  8. I can’t imagine this is an ignorance thing – what would the zebra crossing even be for if cyclists weren’t meant to stop for pedestrians there?

  9. The highway code 195:

you should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross
you MUST give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing

  10. The design is horribly implemented, they could have done more to warn pedestrians and cyclists of potential conflicts.
    – red paint instead of blue where the crossings are
    – Poles with reflections or lights

I see people walk right across without stopping to check if it is safe and I’ve seen cyclists not stop when they should have so it’s both

  11. This is just a classic example of: regardless of the rule, if it’s not enforced then it will be disregarded.

Shoplifters used to be really sneaky. Now they just walk in, take whatever, and walk out with a load of free stuff. They can even stop by the loo for a piss on the way out, as no one will actively do anything to stop them.

  12. [posted just yesterday on r/londoncycling: “Zebra crossings” across cycle lanes at floating bus stops](https://redd.it/1odeln9)

There seems to be a perception of these as not ‘real’ zebra crossings, or ‘ambiguity’ about them.

  13. Also for pedestrians who cross on red for pedestrians and walk infront of buses, trucks and other vehicles stopped because of traffic; yes I do look out for you, but other cyclists will see the greenlight and won’t be quite so observant.

And that incljudes the pregnant woman that had a push chair out infront of her, crossing on a red light for pedestrians directly infront of a bus – lucking I *was* paying more attention that she was

  14. The same as any other moronic poster campaign from TFL telling people to stop doing something …. they know they are not supposed to being doing whatever your poster campaign is telling them to stop doing.

As if grown adults are going to see it and go “oooooooo, how red faced am I??? I didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to do that!”

You only stop it if you police it, but that costs a lot more than a few grand spent on a few posters and online ads. “Well we tried! I guess this goes the same way as music on public transport or sexual harassment on the tube …. nothing else we can do”.

  15. They can’t even use the dedicated cycle lanes and choose to ride on the road so you’ve no hope of this

  16. If they’re too dim to stop at crossings, they’re too dim to understand this graphic
