  24. Imperialism is not only Putin’s whim. It’s an essential part of Russian culture and one of its cores. Imperialism means that small nations don’t deserve to be independent. For that reason, Poland and Russia have conflicting interests and we will never be friends or serious trade partners, unfortunately. Basic history knowledge is needed to understand that. Moscow also reinforces this image through military cooperation, energy deals, and diplomatic rhetoric emphasizing “multipolarity” – the idea of a world no longer dominated by a single Western power bloc (BRICKS for example).

    At the same time, Russia manipulates the memory of the Soviet Union’s anti-fascist legacy. The term “denazification,” which the Kremlin uses to justify its war against Ukraine, is designed to evoke the Soviet struggle against Hitler’s Germany and to position modern Russia as the inheritor of that moral mission. This rhetoric finds particular traction among audiences that see fascism and colonialism as intertwined forms of oppression. Yet, this use of “anti-Nazi” language is of course cynical: it masks an authoritarian system that glorifies violence, suppresses dissent, persecutes minorities, and idolizes the military… features far closer to fascism than to anti-fascism…

    In reality, Vladimir Putin’s regime embodies the very traits it condemns. It is deeply imperial in outlook, viewing the independence of neighboring states not as a legitimate outcome of decolonization but as a temporary deviation from Russia’s “historic” sphere of influence. The invasion of Ukraine, the annexation of Crimea, and interventions in Georgia and Syria all reveal a consistent pattern of expansionism and domination. Domestically, the Russian state relies on ultranationalist ideology, propaganda, repression of civil society, and the myth of a besieged Russia surrounded by enemies – all of which serve to maintain a quasi-fascist political order…

    There is reporting that some of the financial or business‐structures tied to the Tate brothers have connections (direct or indirect) to Russian‐linked entities. One article mentions that the brothers received payments via a bank owned by a Russian businessman with links to Kremlin circles.

  40. I mean, on the surface, he’s correct. Nazi Germany is a recent example of a country, which was even more brutal towards Poland, and yet, we were able to to normalize our relations – at least to a point.

    The difference between Russia and Germany, is in the fact that in Russia there still are a statues of communist mass murderers, and some of people directly related to said mass murderers hold some of the highest positions in the country.

    I mean… Putin himself is an ex-KGB agent.
